The School Day
Our school playground will be open in the morning. It is important to understand that the school will not be responsible for children until the school doors open at 8:45am.
Good attendance is important to us and this includes a punctual start to the school day. Learning begins promptly at 8:45am.
The start of the day provides an important opportunity for children to settle into school and practise essential skills. These early learning activities are a valuable part of the school day, so arriving on time helps children to make the most of every learning opportunity.
School Day:
- Start of the school day: 08:45 (registration closes 09:05)
- Break time: 10:15 – 10:30
- Lunchtimes:
12:00 – 13:00 (KS1)
13:15 – 13:15 (KS2) - End of school day: 15:15
(School gates close at 09:05 and reopen at 15:00)
Arriving Safely and Parking
The safety of our children, families and staff is extremely important to us. We ask everyone to take care when travelling to and from school and to follow the guidance below to help keep all members of our school community safe.
The shared main entrance in Finch Road can become very congested at busy times. Where possible, we encourage families to walk to school and for children to use the footpath entrances around the school site.
If you are dropping off or collecting children by car, please do not turn in the gateway or park on the yellow zigzag lines as this can create a dangerous situation for children and adults. The Parish Hall car park is for the exclusive use of Parish Hall users and should not be used by families or visitors attending the school.
We are committed to working with families to promote safe and sustainable journeys to and from school. Please refer to our Travel Plan, available on the school website, for more information about the steps we are taking to support families with safe travel.
Severe Weather Conditions
It will be the aim of the school to maintain “business as usual” throughout the year, but there may be circumstances beyond our control and we will adopt a “common sense” approach at all times.
On days when there may be severe weather, such as heavy snow or ice, parents and carers are advised to check whether the school will be open before sending their children to school.
The main channels of communication will be the Raysfield Dojo page and email, alongside information shared by South Gloucestershire Council and local media where appropriate (including Radio Bristol, Brunel Radio, GWR or local television).
If no announcement is made, please assume that Raysfield Primary School will be operating as normal.
We use Class Dojo and email to communicate important information with families throughout the year. Please ensure that your contact details are kept up to date so that you receive all relevant communications.
