Our Curriculum
At Raysfield, we believe every child deserves a curriculum that provides strong foundations for the future whilst inspiring a curiosity about the world around them. We want children to leave us with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to flourish at secondary school and beyond.
Foundations of Learning
Strong foundations in reading, writing and mathematics are central to everything we do. These essential skills open the door to learning across the curriculum. Knowledge is carefully planned and sequenced so that children build upon what they already know, helping them develop a deep understanding over time.
We are committed to identifying any gaps in children’s foundational knowledge and skills early and providing additional teaching, intervention and support where needed. This ensures that every child has the opportunity to secure the essential building blocks to learning.
Respond to My World
At the heart of our curriculum is our commitment to our school value: Respond. Our curriculum has been carefully developed to help children make sense of the world around them, reflect on important questions and consider issues and events that shape theirs – and others’ – lives. Through their learning, children encounter different perspectives, develop curiosity about the world and begin to understand how their knowledge, choices and actions can make a positive contribution to society.
Practical experiences are woven throughout the curriculum, allowing pupils to explore ideas first-hand and deepen their understanding. Children are given opportunities to investigate, create, design, discuss and solve problems. They are encouraged to learn actively and apply their knowledge in purposeful ways.
Know Myself
Our curriculum is also shaped by our value: Know. We encourage children to understand their strengths, recognise their next steps and take increasing ownership of their learning. Children are supported to reflect on what they know, what they can do and how they can improve, developing the confidence and resilience to tackle challenges.
Connect with My Community
We are proud of our local community and recognise the importance of children feeling a strong sense of belonging and connection to the place in which they live and learn. Our curriculum helps children understand the history, people, places and stories that make our community unique, while also encouraging them to consider how they can play an active role within it. Where possible, children take part in community events, work with local organisations and learn from people and experiences beyond the classroom. We want our children to value their community and play an active part in making their community a positive place to live and learn.
