Religious Education
Raysfield is a community school committed to providing children with meaningful opportunities to learn about a wide range of religions and worldviews. Our pupils come from diverse faith and non-faith backgrounds, and we celebrate this diversity as a strength within our community.
Religious Education plays an important role in our vision, helping children to “Know Myself” and “Connect with my Community.” Through learning about different beliefs, traditions and ways of life, pupils develop a deeper understanding of their own values and identity, while also learning to appreciate, respect and engage thoughtfully with others.
We follow the South Gloucestershire Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education. The religions and worldviews children encounter include Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Humanism, amongst others. Each unit is structured around a key question, giving pupils opportunities to explore, analyse and reflect on the principles, practices and lived experiences of different religions and worldviews.
In line with the South Gloucestershire syllabus, our curriculum reflects the threefold aims of RE:
- Believing – knowing about and understanding a range of religions and worldviews
- Expressing – expressing ideas and insights about the nature, significance and impact of religions and worldviews
- Living – gaining and deploying the skills needed to engage seriously and respectfully with religions and worldviews
Through RE, we aim to nurture curious, reflective and respectful learners who understand both themselves and the diverse community in which they live.
Right to Withdrawal:
Parents and carers have the legal right to withdraw their child from all or part of Religious Education. If you are considering withdrawal, we encourage you to speak with Sarah Thomas (Headteacher) to discuss your concerns and the nature of the RE curriculum, as it is designed to be inclusive and educational rather than devotional. We are committed to working in partnership with families to reach a shared understanding.
